About

The Undergraduate Materials Organization serves as a liaison between faculty and undergraduates, and acts as an umbrella organization for several MatSE organizations relating to undergraduate concentrations. These organizations include the chapter of ASM, devoted primarily to those in the metals concentration, the student chapter of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE), and the Student Branch of the American Ceramics (SBACS). The responsibility of UMO is to facilitate the actions and involvement in these societies, and also unify these societies as one body to promote involvement across concentrations.

UMO also provides an enhanced social outlet for MatSE students, offers a reprieve from the demanding MatSE curriculum, and fosters relationships between MatSE students in a social setting. The Undergraduate Materials Organization has built a strong, yet flexible operating and organizational structure, which readily addresses the changing needs and interests of its members.

The UMO is establishing itself as an outstanding resource for undergraduates in this department. We are enhancing the value of our meetings to members and facilitating more active participation in the actions of the organization. We are establishing a more involved relationship with Alumni, faculty, and other societies in the College of Engineering.
